What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki (Ray-Key) means Universal Life Energy. This natural healing technique normally uses the laying on of hands. Some practitioners perform it without touching the body. It is also a healing modality that is used long distance through symbols and visualization. Long distance healing can be used to heal the sick or to manifest whatever you want in your life. It has been said that it is beyond scientific explanation; however it is exactly how quantum physics works.

The art of laying hands on the human or animal body to comfort and can relieve pain is as old as instinct. When experiencing pain, the first thing most people do is to put their hands on it. When a child falls and scrapes her knee, she wants her mother to touch it (or kiss it) and make it better. A mother’s instinct when a child is feverish or ill directs her to place her hands on the baby’s forehead. Human touch conveys warmth, serenity and healing. It also conveys caring and love. When an animal is in pain, a dog or cat’s first instinct is to lick the pain area- for the same reason that a person applies touch with her hands. An animal’s mother will also lick her young in distress. This sample acts is the basis for all touch healing techniques.

Reiki was discovered by Dr.Mikao Usui a Buddhist Minister in the late 1800’s. Dr. Usui wished to discover how Jesus healed the sick. So, he went on a quest on the sacred mountain of Kuriyama in Japan. He then discovered the rainbow which is interpreted as the Chakra colors. Chakras are like a medicine wheel and each color has a specific function emotionally and physically. His first healing experience was with a young girl who had a toothache. He simply placed his hands on her and in a short time her toothache was gone.

What many people experience during a Reiki session varies from person to person. Feelings of deep relaxation are generally felt by all. In addition some feel a glowing radiance that surrounds them As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or negative feelings, some drift off to sleep or go into a deep relaxation. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a positive, more balanced outlook.

If one is undergoing major illness or trauma a series of many sessions would be necessary to make major improvements. For Life changes such as jobs, marriages etc. Reiki would be extremely beneficial. Of course, each individual responds differently so this healing modality cannot be guaranteed. However, one will be more enlightened after experiencing Reiki.

Each healer has their own gift. Some healers work with colors. Some see past lives. Some are simply intuitive and read people’s energy and know what their blockages are, by clearing the energy centers that created the problem, pain and obstacles are cleared. One must understand that Reiki is spiritual in nature; it is not a religion.

The number of sessions is different with each individual. Sometimes one session is enough for that person that day. Sometimes trauma or serious illnesses can take many sessions. The recipient must participate in the healing process. A strong desire to improve or make changes is of utmost importance for the best results.

Because it focuses on improving the flow of energy in all realms of our being (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual), Reiki is very versatile and can be used to heal or improve any human condition of difficulty. In addition to healing yourself and others, it can also based to protect individuals from harm, help solve problems and achieve goals.

Reiki must be given by a trained practitioner who has received several attunements. It is taught in 3 levels so for example, if one is a Master Reiki Practitioner they have the most healing potential.

If you wish to give yourself treatments you may. You must however, take the Level I course and receive your attunement in order to be able to achieve any healing.
